coming up for air...

wow...what a crazy week already.  it has been a roller coaster.  but here is something that calms me down.  another pillow in the making.  now back to studying.  i'm counting the days until the end of this semester.  i hate wishing my life away, but it has been very stressful to say the least!  i do have some very good news though.  i have been accepted as a summer intern at the national institutes of health and will be in washington dc this summer for several weeks.  this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and i will be working with the best in the world of biomolecular research.  to be more precise i will be in the neurological and stroke section of nih.  yes i have a lot of planning and organizing to do.  i don't have a ton of details yet, but i know everything will fall into place.  anyone living in the d.c metro area? 

don't you think i need a few more skeins of embroidery floss? papa could not believe this jar when he saw it.  he said....geez how many millions of dollars do you have in there?  i told him to relax, they are only $.33/skein and I usually get them on sale.

the miracle of life...

it is not any news that i'm a nerd.  but, you can see why once you watch the video below.  in a nutshell this is what i study everyday, cells, micromolecules and their interactions.  when i saw this video i was elated.  i made my husband watch it and he was not so interested, what??????  maybe one of you will share in my joy.  it is no wonder that when the lay person ask me what i study a wall goes up as soon as the words cell & molecular biology come out of my mouth.  according to my professor (who is from the U.K) americans have a particular way of expressing themselves when they have no interest in what you are talking about.  this expression can be summed up by the words "Oh really?!"  i have to agree.  in fact i have come to terms that it is best to say something like, i study biology.  which is more general and does not cause any "Oh Really?!" expressions.  now imagine that this takes up inside us all of the time.  isn't life just a miracle??  these little micromolecules know just how and when to talk to one another.  and of course the sad side is when they don't communicate.  that's when the genetic diseases happen.  so if nothing else, be thankful for the healthy children in your life.  even when they, let's say, dump a whole bottle of clothing detergent on the floor, just before you walk out of the door. ohh my little miracle, i do love you.  now please clean up your mess.
