well, i'm tired. today was a long and fun day in d.c. it started off at the washington monument. this picture is from last week. we had a gloomy day today, so pictures where not as good. this was such a beautiful blue sky.
after i met up with a group of post-doctoral fellows from the nih we went to the smithsonian folk festival at the national mall. it was a nice free event. we got to see several exhibits and tasted some great inca food. this year they had exhibits from south america, wales, and african culture. the live music was very nice as well.

love this pile of color...
i really wanted a pair of these cozy socks. went all of the way to the market place and found some really ugly colors still left. dang it.
after the national mall we walked what seems like a million miles to the metro. we went to my FAVORITE spot in DC....georgetown. i'm positive you will see it again and again. i found some neat stores there but did not get to photograph all of them. aside from every form of stores, like anthro, urban outfitters, j.crew, bcbg, etc...there are some really neat local stores there. and although i have no pictures of the architecture, it is a lovely place. my lens is not suitable for taking pictures of buildings. but i will try to snap a few before i leave.
this one is by far my fave. annie's creacheese. a vintage boutique with super cute second hand designer dresses. the store is so neat and the dresses are in super condition. they have brand like chanel and such. the prices where really not that bad.
after a little shopping we went to eat at martin's tavern. i was really looking forward to eating there. this is the place where jfk proposed to jackie. the proposal booth is booth #3, we sat in booth #2. supposedly booth #2 was nixon's booth. we wanted to sit in booth #3 but it was reserved. the food here is great, but the service is terrible. maybe we just got one grumpy server. i will try to give it another go sometime soon. it felt a bit strange to eat there. so much history inside those walls.
my two loves are coming to visit me this week. i'm sooooooo looking forward to seeing them. i have to tell ya, if nih wasn't so demanding i would never make it being away from them. my hours are very long and when i'm there i think science and that is it. this next week will be great. there are several workshops and events geared for the summer students. my summer project is going really well and i hope to finish it before the end of next month. all in all, i'm still so honored to be here. i'm enjoying the big city and loving what i'm doing at work. i could not have asked for a better opportunity. now here's to a great week. i will finish listening to yannick noah and go to sleep. wow, i can't believe the weekend is already over. have a wonderful week!!!
