a late happy 4th...

so look who came to visit me this weekend!  we had too much fun hanging out in DC.  first a trip to the white house.  she won't remember any of this, but the pictures will show her she has been there.

you know she wanted to smile, but ohhh no.

then she fell asleep in the stroller.  and missed out on this.

after the nap we walked in at the smithsonian national museum of natural history.  we saw so many huge animals there.  but she was a bit puzzled by their stationary poses.  she was rightfully expecting them to move.  i have more pictures of the musem, but i'm pressed for time.

then the next day we went to the national mall to see the fireworks.  first we stopped by old ebbitt grill to pick up our "picnic".  the food was really great!

this is some serious fun.  they thought of everything.

DSC_4513-small

after a few hours of wait.  we got the most amazing display of fireworks.  it was well worth it.  i think this looks more like neurons.

DSC_4557-small

on sunday we headed out to the zoo.  now here the animals move.  we had to see a few animals from the book good night gorilla.  we saw almost all of them. the picture below is of such poor quality, there were just so many people waiting in like to take pictures here i did not want to hog the space and take more shots.

DSC_4593-small

she is a huge fan of elephants and monkeys, as you can see.  and i think this is the best seat as well!!

i love this face!!!!  i think she grew 2 inches in 4 weeks.  such a big girl.

well, this was our weekend in a nutshell.  i miss them already!!!  my roomie and i plan to make a trip to eastern market for the farmer's market this weekend.  i have been to whole foods quite a lot, but i have not seen anything as i like.  i can't wait to get some fresh foods.  yummmmmm!

culture+shopping+history=my day...

well, i'm tired.  today was a long and fun day in d.c.  it started off at the washington monument.  this picture is from last week.  we had a gloomy day today, so pictures where not as good. this was such a beautiful blue sky.

after i met up with a group of post-doctoral fellows from the nih we went to the smithsonian folk festival at the national mall.  it was a nice free event.  we got to see several exhibits and tasted some great inca food.  this year they had exhibits from south america, wales, and african culture.  the live music was very nice as well.

love this pile of color...

DSC_4352-small

i really wanted a pair of these cozy socks.  went all of the way to the market place and found some really ugly colors still left.  dang it.

after the national mall we walked what seems like a million miles to the metro.  we went to my FAVORITE spot in DC....georgetown.  i'm positive you will see it again and again.  i found some neat stores there but did not get to photograph all of them.  aside from every form of stores, like anthro, urban outfitters, j.crew, bcbg, etc...there are some really neat local stores there.  and although i have no pictures of the architecture, it is a lovely place.  my lens is not suitable for taking pictures of buildings.  but i will try to snap a few before i leave.

DSC_4308-small

this one is by far my fave.  annie's creacheese.  a vintage boutique with super cute second hand designer dresses.  the store is so neat and the dresses are in super condition.  they have brand like chanel and such.  the prices where really not that bad.

after a little shopping we went to eat at martin's tavern.  i was really looking forward to eating there.  this is the place where jfk proposed to jackie.  the proposal booth is booth #3, we sat in booth #2.  supposedly booth #2 was nixon's booth.  we wanted to sit in booth #3 but it was reserved.  the food here is great, but the service is terrible.  maybe we just got one grumpy server.  i will try to give it another go sometime soon.  it felt a bit strange to eat there.  so much history inside those walls.

my two loves are coming to visit me this week.  i'm sooooooo looking forward to seeing them.  i have to tell ya, if nih wasn't so demanding i would never make it being away from them.  my hours are very long and when i'm there i think science and that is it.  this next week will be great.  there are several workshops and events geared for the summer students.  my summer project is going really well and i hope to finish it before the end of next month.  all in all, i'm still so honored to be here.  i'm enjoying the big city and loving what i'm doing at work.  i could not have asked for a better opportunity. now here's to a great week.  i will finish listening to yannick noah and go to sleep.  wow, i can't believe the weekend is already over.  have a wonderful week!!!

so amazing...

i'm in d.c.  wow, there is a lot to talk about.  but i will summarize in, NIH is amazing, D.C. is amazing, my roommate is amazing, my PI (principal investigator) and fellows are amazing, i'm amazing too.  ohh ok, i got a little carried away.  is pretty easy to do that around here though.  i'm having the best experience in my life.  the only two things that make it not the fullest, which are huge,  is that i'm away from my two loves and my home.  i misssssssssss them so very much.  i can't even begin to explain.  so to keep busy in the evenings, i have been working on my site.  well, it is up now.  went to the national mall last sunday.  it was pretty nice to look and see the south lawn, then look around and i could see the lincoln memorial.  i did not get to go to the memorials and such but i will visit them and the main museums soon.  papa, kennedy, and my mother-in-law are coming over the 4th of july, fireworks at the mall and a trip to the national zoo are in order.  she will have a ball.  this weekend we might go up there again to visit some places.  hopefully next time i will have some nice photos and all.  for now you can delight your visual senses on the fabulous logo, designed by amber mabe and also on my new site.  nathalie bearden photography

let the spoiling begin...

ok last sewing project for two months.  i embroidered this little design of mine while we where on vacation and finally made it into the project i wanted for it to become.  my mother-in-law came bearing gifts from both grandparents...a big play kitchen.  and as you can see kennedy has been "cooking" so much!  i found the cups, plates, pots, and pans at toys r us.  they are made in the u.s from recycled milk jugs.  they are bpa and phtalate free.  oh and can you spot a lela doll and a sweet flutter by?  thank you for the gifts, ruby and girls, we received them and LOVE everything!!!  my table cloth is already in use and the apron is hanging with my little collection.  you are so sweet!  well, the next post....whenever it may come...i will be in DC.  so see you then!!!

still here...

hello there neglected blog!  i'm still here...just too busy to sit down.  my to-do list is a mile long and i'm tackling one check mark at the time.  bags are not packed yet, but i will pack soon.  leaving for D.C. on saturday.  no tears yet, but they will come with time.  on a cheerful note, i must admit i was giddy to watch the new moon trailer.  i know, i know, i had harsh words for twilight, but they deserved it.  i have a littel faith this will be a better movie.  so here is a sewing project for the spring (it was done many weeks back and just now in use), a new table cloth thingy.  it was a sew as you go project and i used a ruffler foot to make the ruffles.  humm i like that, ruffler to make the ruffles.  oh do you see the china cabinet? my mother's day gift.  very antique and beautifully refinished.  ok, i do have the best husband!  and how about my thrifted mirror?  came painted already.  well, the plates from anthropologie where gifts from my bff amber! yellow birdie on the tray was a sweet birdie package surprise from kellie.  i love them all girl!  well, that's all i got.  i will try to make one last post before i leave.  i have no idea how blogging will be when i get there.  if i can just get there and find where i will live will be awesome.  my dream these days is that i got there and could not find the place and i was late for the first day at work.  can you say, A-N-X-I-E-T-Y?!

second was this hand crochet blanket.  i could not help it when i saw these vibrant colors.  this will be a nice blanket to use in sessions....and in the house to lay on and play.  yes we will wash it in between uses.

not bad huh?  sometimes you can find such unexpected things in antique malls.  the price paid for these things was a real bargain, but the fun is priceless.  until next time!

i think spring is here...

we have to have the craziest weather in the world.  i think spring is here to stay now.  but i could be wrong.  i took advantage of the nice day to go outside and play with the new camera.  it is taking a little getting used to, but overall it's two thumbs up!  the lens gives the prettiest bokeh and i love it!  i know i'm not doing them quite the justice yet, but i will keep working at it.  i PROMISE sewing things to come.  gotta go enjoy the last rays of sunshine for today!  see ya. ps: when did my girl get this big?  i went to sleep one day she was a bald baby, now she has long wavy hair.  where is the time going??

new shiny toy...

who ever thought that changing camera brands would be liking disowning your family.  well, it is almost like that.  i have been stalking the UPS guy today and he finally showed up with my new shiny toy.  ins't she pretty?  i'm about to become a nikon girl.  this was not my original dream camera and lens, but after a LOT of research and help of some pretty awesome people, i settled for this duo: nikon d700 and a 85mm 1.4 lens.  they are my dream now and i can't wait to shoot with them.

i'm finally done with classes for this semester and trying to catch up on life and sewing.  just be patient, you will see progress soon.  right now, i need to go study a manual. :)

these eyes...

this is the sweetest little baby girl.  love miss M so much!!!  and those eyes will melt your heart away!!!  i have been booking a few sessions and have some more pictures to show soon.  and i will also have some sewing things to show.  i have been slow in the sewing department.  my machine has been in the shop for weeks.  i will try to mix up my ever so growing child photography with my usual craftivism.  i'm working on the photography website.  hopefully it will be up soon.  right now just trying to focus on my finals and getting decent grades.  for now enjoy miss M and her amazingly beautiful blue eyes.  yes those are hers, courtesy of her mom and dad.  and yes it was taken with my rebel xti, which is about to be retired.
